A total 70 truckloads of relief goods have so far been dispatched to the flood-hit areas and more aid convoys would sent to remote areas in coming days. This was stated by the LCCI Senior Vice President Ijaz A Mumtaz while dispatching a fifth consignment of relief goods to Peshawar and Noshehra. The LCCI Senior Vice President also handed over three truckloads of relief goods to the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mohammad Aslam Khan Tarin for the flood affectees of Dera Ghazi Khan. LCCI former Vice President Sheikh Mohammad Arshad, Executive Committee Members Nasir Saeed, Mian Zahid Javaid, Dr Shahid Raza and Margoob Shakir Izhar were also present on the occasion.
The City Police Chief said that it was impressive that the business community of Lahore was putting in its best efforts to ensure maximum relief to the flood affectees and he hoped that the efforts would continue till the total rehabilitation of these people in the flood-hit areas. The goods included Flour, Ghee, Sugar, Rice, Dry Milk, Pickle, Dates, Biscuits, Tea, Roasted grams, Dal Channa, Salt, Red Chilli, Candles, Match boxes, 12-litre Water bottles and tents.
The first four consignments of Rs 3.5 million, Rs 7.5 million and Rs 4 million consisting of aid convoys of 15 and 22 trucks respectively had already been sent to Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Rahim Yar Khan respectively.
The LCCI senior Vice President said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry was trying to send relief goods to the flood affectees in all parts of the country but for the purpose all segments of society and organs of the state would have to work together. He said that the LCCI Executive Committee members are personally supervising the distribution of relief goods. He said that the business community of the city would not let the funds dry. The response to LCCI appeal for donations was marvalous” he said adding that this has given a new strength and encouragement to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
